PROJECT FEATURE— lufthansa FILM

24.06.13

We are excited to share a recent project collaboration with Lufthansa, now live and featured aboard each of their flights. NOMINN had the pleasure of contributing to the concept design phase for a virtual production film shoot executed by the London based Quite Brilliant.

Early on in the project development we were tasked with creating a charming New York diner and neighborhood streetscape. These elements were carefully modeled and textured in 3ds Max, with the aim of a seamless translation into Unreal Engine by the Quite Brilliant team. Ensuring flawless file organization on our end was key, simplifying the complex process of transferring all geometry and textures into Unreal Engine.

CONCEPT DESIGN & MODELING

Guided by the vision of Creative Director Jamie Balliu and his team, who provided detailed concept art and storyboards, we developed the scene to align perfectly with their shot list. We emphasized intricate details to ensure the environment would stand up to scrutiny in close-up shots. To achieve this, we utilized a variety of tools, prioritizing assets that would transition smoothly into Unreal Engine, such as items from Kitbash 3D and Quixel Megascans. For many of the custom objects, we relied on the use of Adobe Substance 3D Painter to add nuanced layers of dirt and grime, enhancing the realism of the scene.

Shown below is a collection of draft renderings we created with Chaos Corona throughout the process to communicate our working concept to the wider team.

After completing the concept design and modeling for the New York scene, we handed it off to the Quite Brilliant team to get it up and running in Unreal Engine. They integrated our work into their virtual production workflow, utilizing their 12,000 sq. ft. Virtual Production facility to make it an integral part of the final Lufthansa safety video.

This project exemplifies our commitment to detailed, realistic 3D visualization and seamless collaboration with creative teams. We are proud of the final result and thrilled to see our work featured in Lufthansa’s new safety video.
