PROJECT FEATURE— DURACELL FILM
24.02.08
We recently had the incredible opportunity to contribute to the creation of a very festive project – "Duracell - Bunny Saves Christmas." which debuted in November 2023 and was directed by Geoffroy Barbet Massin.
We were contacted in the early stages of the project and were asked to help with developing the visual style that would bring the narrative to life. This involved a meticulous process of collaboration, creativity, and artistic ingenuity, working directly with Geoffroy and his creative team. We were tasked with creating a series of concept paintings, serving as a visual foundation for the project to be built upon.
Development of Visual Style
In the early stages we explored various moods for color, lighting, and scene arrangement. This was carried out primarily in 3ds Max and Corona Render. To achieve the Pixar look we were asked to create, we applied the finishing touches in Photoshop with a number of overpainting techniques. Our goal was clear – to craft a visual feeling that resonated with the warmth and magic of the holiday season while also staying true to the iconic history of Duracell’s holiday films.
The finished series of concept artwork is shown below.
Passing the Torch to The Mill
After the direction became clearer, the project was handed over to the skilled hands of "The Mill," a renowned professional animation studio. This transition marked the shift from concept to reality, as The Mill took the helm for the final production stages.
The Mill's reputation precedes them, and with good reason. Their expertise in animation and visual effects is unparalleled, making them the perfect choice for bringing the Duracell holiday commercial to life.
We were thrilled to be a part of the creative development on a unique project like this— and look forward to similar opportunities in the future. The full film and creative breakdown can be seen on The Mill’s website here.
